Apple Support Ende für Catalina

Apple beendet den Software-Support für macOS Catalina (Veröffentlicht im Jahr 2019; Versionsnummer 10.15). Somit stellt der Hersteller künftig keine Funktionsupdates und vor allem Sicherheitsupdates mehr für das Betriebssystem bereit, daher wird ein Update so weit für Ihr Mac verfügbar empfohlen.

Drittanbieter ziehen mit

Vor allem der Software-Gigant Microsoft wird für das beliebte Programm Microsoft Office nach dem bevorstehenden Oktober Patchday (Versionsnummer 16.66), keine Updates mehr liefern, die mit dem macOS Catalina kompatible sind.
Office 365, 2019 und 2021 sind somit ab Oktober mit der Mindestanforderung macOS 11 Big Sur und macOS 12 Monterey ausgestattet.

Microsoft Office und Catalina

Bereits auf macOS 10.15 Catalina installierte Microsoft Office 365, Office 2019 und Office 2021 Instanzen können jedoch weiterhin genutzt werden, wobei die Sicherheit dann vollständig dem Endnutzer überlassen ist.
Somit werden manipulierte Office Dateien, die es auf eventuelle Schwachstellen absehen, zum Sicherheitsrisiko für macOS Catalina Nutzer.
